Since moving to Southern California from Minneapolis a few months ago, I have discovered that many elements of décor remain consistent across the miles, yet some things are different. Take Halloween decorating, for example. It turns out that kids here in SoCal love decorating their homes just as much as those in the Twin Cities. They chose skeletons and skulls more than anything else. Ghosts are also favorites. And this year cobwebs are everywhere—on bushes, posts and even windows.

The big difference, though, is that with a much higher population in California, homes are closer together. That means yards around my new neighborhood are much smaller those in the Midwest, and sometimes there is really no yard to speak of. That makes the area around the front door vital to Halloween décor.

Take a peek at a few of the front doors (and nearby bushes) in my SoCal neighborhood.
